Fill in for January (incl. Dress-up Submission)

Pictures! here are some projects I completed....
These photos are by Susan Wolfe, you can find more of her gorgeous work on facebook.  This is the submission to the Lawrence Art Guild's Globally Green show
The elements being Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Earth, Water, and Air
Malissa Martin-Wilke, Karen Roberts, Jill Tichenor and myself each composed an element, shared portions of the preliminary piece with each other and then built these prayer flags for the composite piece: Earthly Prayers

Close-up of the charred wood integrated into the fire panel.

I did, indeed finish 20 basset hound dogs in winter coats christmas cards for my father (late late late xmas present)

The dress-up challenge for january was inspired by impressionism... i posted all the pictures and process descriptions on the MacKomics Studio Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/Liza.D.MacKinnon) but here are a few teaser pics...

I also developed a series of valentine cards that are currently for sale on my etsy site: MacKomicsStudio.etsy.com, at The Raven and the Merc in Lawrence, and Brightside Gallery in KC

This last one is actually a set of 5 and was my first etsy sale ever!!

I also developed some vinyl valentines - painted record albums in preparation for my show at Parisole Arts on Feb 4th First Friday.

This one will be donated to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in KC.

Always a happy past time for me is making hair accessories... I came up with a bunch of cuties just for valentine's day... here are a few.. many more have not been photographed yet...

many more can be viewed at MacKomicsStudio.etsy.com or on Facebook!
I'll try to be more timely next month!

2011 Integration

Instead of barrelling myopically towards my latest passion or previously; depression... 2011 will be focused on integration. Yes, yes, this is the make it or break it 12 months in terms of finances, but perhaps with a balanced view, a conscious approach, life will provide in one way or another.

Busy busy busy at the beginning of the new year... Walking, breaking habits, filling orders and taking on new commitments. Plus.. clean as I go... keep the "factory" in good shape. I should have posted before and after pictures of the studio... let's just say that it's really nice to see the floor again!

In the works

Very first wedding hair piece commission - met with the lovely client yesterday and co-designed a great tri-flower arrangement.

Multi-card set for father - late xmas present

Collecting images to paint on albums

Finished Four-Rooms Collective prayer flag at midnight last night

Dress-up Challenge: A dress a month in 2011, hosted by Sew.Loquacious.blogspot.com

Almost 100 card order for the Merc

And... did i mention that i've hopped back on the vegan train... 2 whole days on it and i'm doing a lot of patting myself on the back.. the first two weeks on any diet are the worst, worste, wurste.... ahh

ciao

Rabbit Rabbit

Good luck the whole year long! Imagine a graceful leap off the end of the bed whilst whispering "Rabbit Rabbit" before landing lightly.  Certainly far from the clumbsy truth, but none-the-less... good luck for a year!  The sun was shining on the new day, the new chance, the new start and Birdy and I went for a long walk in the fields behind Haskell. I worked on my piece for the Globally Green Art Show for the Lawrence Art Guild (deadline for submissions coming up quickly!... January 15).  With the pieces from the members of the newly formed Four Rooms Collective,  I assembled the other elements: Earth, Wind and Water easily, embellished with shells, feathers and fossils and then set upon the bulk of the piece: Fire.  Upon discovering that the human heart with ventricals and other veins and tube-y things coming out of its top looked remarkably like the sacred heart icon I had envisioned for the center, I began embroidering over a printout of an illustration of a human heart.  Great idea until it comes time to pull the paper out from under the stitches... patience and tweezers!  Tomorrow I plan to pull out the hibachi and burn selected twigs for a flaming topper!
Original piece before cutting...

Note similarity to sacred heart icon!"
Happy New Year!
